Blackwood’s unique, dark and lyrical sound has the precision and clarity found in any classical ensemble, but also taps into the expressive freedom found in the improvisational gestures of contemporary jazz. Juno nominees Jeff Reilly (bass clarinet), Peter-Anthony Togni (piano/organ) and India Gailey (cello) explore plainchant, European jazz and contemporary classical techniques, developing a deep musical connection to create music that critics have called “sonically haunting”.

Show at Mt. Allison University Chapel

Join Fredericton's acclaimed Elm City String Quartet as they play holiday classics and seasonal favourites by candlelight at the Mt. Allison University Chapel.

Established in 2019, the Elm City String Quartet was brought together by their passion for chamber music and a desire to share their love of quartet repertoire with their home town of Fredericton. With Victor Vivas and Mercedes Salazar on violin, Mark Kleyn on viola, and Emily Kennedy on cello, the ECSQ’s exciting and broad programming pairs works by today’s composers alongside celebrated quartet classics. Some members perform in indie bands and compose multimedia works; some are renowned international pedagogues; but all are passionate chamber music players, Sistema NB Teaching Artists, and active teachers in their community.
