GREENSLADES

16 Charles Street
Sackville, New Brunswick

Big, welcoming, and full of light, Greenslades is located in downtown Sackville, New Brunswick but has a gentle country magic. Here, artists perform in an intimate setting and guests can enjoy a memorable stay in the heart of the Maritimes.

Steve Haley /
The Gilberts

Saturday, October 18th
7:30 pm (Doors at 7 pm)

Sackville musician (and Greenslades neighbour) Steve Haley celebrates the release of his newest album, Secret Knock, with a performance that showcases his thoughtful, melodic songs the evoke the lo-fi rustic sounds of Will Oldham and Jason Molina. A story-songwriter whose Newfoundland roots are ever present in his work, every Steve Haley album is a document of creative community collaboration and a celebration of musical spirit. Steve also performs with Blue Horse, a harmony-centric folk group, and hosts a weekly radio show with his children.

Multi award-winning siblings The Gilberts bring vibrant three-part harmonies, soulful lyricism and diverse influences to their songs, performances and recordings. Frieden, Reuben and Maisie emigrated to Canada in 2003, growing up on muddy folk festival fields, stepping up to open mics, performing at small events and soon touring soft seat theatres and playing major festivals including Deep Roots, Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival, Full Circle, Paddlefest, and Celtic Colours. Along the way they set up a home studio and recorded and released two albums, garnering a Canadian Folk Music Award, an East Coast Music Award, and a Music Nova Scotia Award.

Haunted By Flames:

a true Maritime mystery

Wednesday, October 29th
7:30 pm (Doors at 7 pm)

In 1922, a quiet farmhouse suddenly burst into chaos. In a single night, 38 unexplained fires erupted inside, terrifying a family and baffling detectives, reporters, and ghost hunters who came to investigate, and attracting interest from every news outlet in North America.

Some blamed ghosts. Others whispered a human was at the centre of it all.

Join Backyard History’s Andrew MacLean for a Halloween-season evening of true Maritimes mystery. Come hear the sometimes hilarious, occasionally unsettling, yet completely true ghost story, told with the wit, warmth, and meticulous research that defines Backyard History.
